Claudia Schmidt & Her Funtet Comes to P2!



Michigan native Claudia Schmidt and her Funtet continue the new music series “Live at P2," on Sunday, March 27th at 3pm!

Claudia Schmidt has toured across North America and Europe’s intimate clubs, theaters, and festival stages with 25,000 rapt listeners. She is familiar with the mediums of radio and TV, including regular stints on Public Radio International's “A Prairie Home Companion ” in its early incarnation. Garrison Keillor said, “When Claudia sings a song, it stays sung.”

She has recorded fourteen albums exploring folk, blues, and jazz idioms. While Claudia’s musical roots have been in the folk genre, she continues to explore her love of Jazz by way of her musical partnership with Funtet which includes Don Julin on mandolin, Ron Getz on guitar, Jack Dryden on bass and Randy Marsh on drums and harmonica.

RITMO Latin Jazz Headlines "Live at P2"



Michigan’s premier salsa orchestra, Orquesta Ritmo, headlines our new music series “Live at P2,” an exiting series that showcases dynamic performances in jazz, world music, blues and more right in the heart of Old Town Lansing. This special evening of Cuban inspired sounds will be recorded and videotaped live right in studio!

Orquesta Ritmo is a full 11-piece Cuban inspired Salsa orchestra and was founded by bandleader Mike Eyia. For more than 30 years, Ritmo has been entertaining and electrifying both music lovers and salsa enthusiasts alike.

Mike Eyia is joined by fellow band members; Thomas Snyder on trombone, Mike Eyia Jr. on saxophone and flute, Russ McMartin on lead trumpet, Brad Fowler on 2nd trumpet, Rob Mulligan on congas, Carmelo Sanchez on Latin percussion, Tim Thelen on timbales, Paul Lesinski on piano, Terry Newman on bass and Armando Vega, vocalist and Latin percussion.

The band has been performing all through out the Mid-West and has opened for a number of national and international acts, including such artists as Salsa great Oscar D’Leon and recording artists Los Lobos.

Guests can warm up with complimentary salsa lessons before the concert begins taught by Latin dance specialist Angela Rojas-Dedenbach. Then, everyone can then continue grooving with the music throughout the night!

Doors will open at 8pm. Bring your dancing shoes!

Dutch Music Sensation "Available Jelly" Live at P2



The Dutch improvisational jazz sensation “Available Jelly” will perform live at Perspective2, 319 E. Grand River Ave., on Thursday, February 17th at 7:30pm. This special performance marks the band’s first stop on their 2011 Mid-West tour.

Composed of some of the Netherlands’ top improvisers, the five-piece pocket brass band is known for their heart-felt, natural way of blending written material and improvisation. Formed in 1995, “Available Jelly “ is led by musician Michael Moore on alto sax and clarinet, Eric Boeren on cornet, Wolter Wierbos on trombone, Gregg Moore on tuba, and Michael Vatcher on percussion.

Their unique sound brings together a variety of influences ranging from traditional New Orleans jazz while blending contemporary composition techniques, South-African rhythms and ethnic music as they create passionate and energetic performances.

Their sound is best known to include baroque like arrangements for the wind instruments, elaborate hymns and plain sweet melodies that develop into playful yet intriguing listening. The night will feature the group’s original songs along with an eclectic mix of jazz, world music and popular songs.

“We are so excited to make Old Town and Perspective2 the first stop on our Mid-West tour and are looking forward to showcasing our talents to music lovers in Lansing,” said Carolyn Muntz the band’s coordinator. “Guests can expect the unexpected as we perform our top hits from Europe stirred up with improvisations that “Available Jelly” has become known for.”
